Lead Programmer

Company unspecified (job is advertised through an agency)
Cambridge
40k - negotiable on experience

We are looking for an experienced lead programmer to head the engineering team for Sony’s next PS3 game title as it enters the production phase.

The ideal candidate would have experience of leading engineering teams to deliver features across all domains of game development - core technology, tools and game-play implementation.
As such, they will already have experience on several shipped titles, and be well versed in working closely with other disciplines in a production role.

Strongly self-motivated, self-reliant and driven, the candidate will be able to effectively plan and manage a large software project, interact with project stakeholders and work with their team to deliver the project vision on time and to budget. They should be aware of vocational issues that may impact the timely and successful delivery of the product, and be able to mitigate for them.

The candidate will be expected to mentor and advise all members of the programming team. They will be expected to conduct daily progress reviews with their team, and engage in regular planning meetings with the other discipline leads to move the project forward.

The candidate will be required to have exceptional competence in C++ and should be aware of 'best practice' programming techniques for this language. They should be comfortable in the fine-tuning of company coding standards toward the needs of the project, and in ensuring that delivered work from their team meets those standards.

Familiarity with automated build and test systems would be highly valued; additionally, the candidate must be familiar and comfortable with the experience - and challenge - of pulling together regular working builds for external audiences.

Finally, we are looking for somebody who has a true passion for video-games of all shapes and sizes; somebody comfortable with working on a wide range of different game-play styles, and within any genre.

The position offers an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the shaping and delivery of an exciting new IP for the studio, and would suit a senior engineer wishing to pursue a managerial track to their career path.
